Jenny Holzer: Please Change Your Beliefs:1996

Jenny Holzer is an American conceptual artist who was born in Ohio. Jenny originally started her career as an abstract artist creating prints and paintings. Her move to New York in 1977 was when her big breakthrough came about. It was from this move that Jenny found an interest with using text as art and began practicing and experimenting with it. The main focus of Jenny's art now deals with the use of words and ideas in public domains. She has even begun experimenting with using the internet as one of these public spaces. The website Please Change Beliefs was created by Jenny in 1996. This was her very first project on the world wide web. Please Change Beliefs consists of a list of statements and truisms. A few of these statements and truism include a little knowledge can go a long way and boredom makes you do crazy things. At any time the viewer can change or improve any one of these statements and truisms. This interactive website fits into the net.art sphere and the present history of the internet. The internet today is a huge domain where pretty much anyone can place and change whatever information they want onto it. Jenny's site stands true to the internet today because of it's interactibility and the idea that the truisms can be altered or change to please anyone's desire.
